Veterans Enterprise Technologies and Services LLC is supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs Cyber Security under a signed MOU.

The September 2019 MOU between the Department of Veterans Affairs, Shepherd University – Shepherd Entrepreneurship and Research Corporation (SERC) Center for Regional Innovation and KRM Associates, Inc. established the Federated Lab to support medical device and Internet of Things (IoT) security. This lab is part of the Center for Medical Device and IoT Security (CMDIS) established at Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, WV. CMDIS was established for the purpose of supporting VA, DOD and other healthcare entities. The initial focus of the CMDIS or, as the VA refers to it, the “Federated Lab”, is to test medical and IOT devices to certify security based on Underwriters Laboratories (UL) certification criteria and other criteria established by VA as they relate to the VA environment.

Shepherd University Medical Device Cybersecurity Federated Lab ‘s objectives are: 

1. Enhance the security of Medical Devices (MDs)

·    National Standard for Medical Device Security Assessments (UL)

·    VETS, LLC’s National Medical Device Patch-Management System (NMDPMS) : The NMDPMS will address our main issue with keeping MDs patched appropriately, will help FDA to run a comprehensive Oversight/Compliance Program, facilitate the communication between FDA, Medical Device Manufacturer, System Owners (VA), etc. 

·    Enhance the security of IOT and mobile devices which connect to (MDs)

2.   When feasible, support local and/or Federal governments with   projects related to national emergencies (such as COVID-19)
